Observation of the Phase Mode in the Incommensurate Phase of K_2SeO_4 by Raman Scattering

The phase mode has been experimentally studied over a temper;tture rangefrom the commensurate phase to the incommensurate one in K,SeO., using aRaman scattering instrument of high sensitivity. As a result, the j>hase modehas been observed to manifest itself in the incommensurate phase. It is foundthat the phase mode is considerably overdamped and the scatterc:d intensityintegrated over the frequency region higher than 2,5 cm-' increases as the fern-perature decreases in the incommensurate phase.
