Corydalis Tuber has traditionally been used for the treatment of pain and arthritis. The effect of Corydalis Tuber against lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation was investigated using reverse transcription-polynierase chain reaction (RT-PCR), nitric oxide detection, and prostaglandin E_2 (PGE_2) immunoassay on murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. The aqueous extract of Corydalis Tuber suppressed nitric oxide production and PGE_2 synthesis by inhibition on the lipopolysaccharide-stimulated enhancement of the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and interlukin-lbeta (IL-1β) mRNAs expressions in RAW 264.7 macrophages. These results suggest that Atractylodesjaponica exerts anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects probably by suppression of the iNOS, COX-2, and IL-1β expressions.
