2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine <I>N</I>-oxyl radical (CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>4</SUB>C<SUB>5</SUB>H<SUB>6</SUB>NO· (TMPNO·) reacts with palladium dichloride to give complexes of both anionic and cationic TMPNO; [PdCl(TMPNO)]<SUB>2</SUB> (I) and [TMPNO<SUP>+</SUP>]<SUB>2</SUB>[Pd<SUB>2</SUB>Cl<SUB>6</SUB>]<SUP>2−</SUP> (II). I further reacts with dimethylsulfonium phenacylide or triphenylphosphine (L) to afford a mononuclear complex of the PdCl(TMPNO)(L) type. II undergoes a facile reaction with acetone to yield bis(<I>N</I>-acetonyl-<I>N</I>-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinium)hexachlorodipalladate, [(CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>4</SUB>C<SUB>5</SUB>H<SUB>6</SUB>\overset+N(OH)CH<SUB>2</SUB>COCH<SUB>3</SUB>]<SUB>2</SUB>[Pd<SUB>2</SUB>Cl<SUB>6</SUB>]<SUP>2−</SUP>. Configurations of these complexes are described.
