DNA coding for a secretable acid protease gene of Saccharomycopsis fibuligera was isolated from a genomic DNA library of the organism. Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells transformed with a plasmid carrying the cloned gene secreted protease having the same enzymatic properties as those of the S. fibuligera protease. Southern blot analysis of genomic DNA from S. fibuligera confirmed that the protease gene was derived from S. fibuligera.
