Pathogenicity for mice of Trichosporon capitatum strain no. 320 isolated from soil and grown on the enrichment medium containing sec-butyl alcohol was studied.Of the 20 mice inoculated intravenously with the organism, one mouse died and two mice were weakened 13 days after the inoculation. Histopathologically, whitish abscesses of the kidney were observed in 15 of the 19 animals examined. The fungi were also isolated from the kidney in 14,the brain in 13,the spleen in 9,and the heart in 6 of the 18 animals tested.On the other hand, nodules adhering to the surface of each organ in the peritoneal cavity and renal abscesses were observed in 9 and 2 mice of the 20 mice inoculated intraperitoneally, respectively.The histopathological findings in the present study indicate that intravenous or intraperitoneal inoculation of Trichosporon capitatum strain no. 320 resulted in considerably active infection in mice.
