Heat Capacities of the Two-Dimensional Triangular Heisenberg Antiferromagnets VX_2(X;Cl,Br,and I)

Heat capacity has been measured for the two-dimensional triangular Heisenbergantiferromagnets VX. (X; Cl, Br and I) below 60 K. A distinct 2-typc peak hasbeen observed at the respective transition temperatures; 35.4g0.5 K for VC[.,28.8.[O.4 K for VBr. and [4.7.50.06 K for Vl.. The entropy change consumedin the ordering process has been revealed to be quite small suggesting the frustratedcharacter of spin correlations. In Vl., another strong peak suggesting the transi-tion of the first kind has been found at 13.50.50.06 K. The heat capacity C below5 K is reproduced by C/R=hT '-FbT'. From the value of h, the hyperfine fieldH. at V" nucleus is evaluated to be H.= 82 .J.8 k0e for VCI. and VBr.. Most ofthe bT' is attributed to the lattice contribution.
