Pressure Effects on Heat Capacity of the Haldane System NENP

Heat capacity rneastrrennent has been carried out on the Haldane system NENP under thepressure P between 0 kbar< P< 4.8 kbar. The energy gap ,) is found to increase sensitivelyin proportion to the pressure following A :: ,Ag(l % 7x5P). The estitnated value of 7n5 is6.35-iO.30 x 10 'bar ', where y corresponds to the magnetic Griineisen constant and n5 to thecompressibility along the chain axis of the NENP. No trace of three-dimensional ordering is de-tected in the present pressure and temperature ranges. The amplitude of magnetic heat capacityis not constant and increases rovrghly with incre?vsing pressvxre. This behavior is considered to bedue to the pressure dependence of single ion anisotropy D and interchain exchange interactionJ'.
