Two kinds of field-induced spin ordered states (labeled as A and B) in β-Ni (NO_3)_2・4H_2O are studied by measuring the temperature dependence of the speciac heats and susceptibilities. The results reveal that the two ordered states bchave like the two-dimensional square Ising system. The residual entropies below T_c, 2S_c/R, measured under the appropriate magnetic field are 0.47 × ln 2 under the field H//z_A and |H| =27.6 kOe and 0.42 × ln 2 under the field H//z_B and |H| = 43.7 kOe, where z_A(z_B) is one of the principal axes of rhombic crystal field DS^2_z + E(S^2_x-S^2_y) for the Ni^<2+> ions associated with the A(B)-ordered state. The smaller value for H//z_B Suggests the slightly larger anisotropy of the interactions along the rows and lines in the square lattice for the B-ordered state. The crystal struc-ture of β-Ni(NO_3)_2・4H_2O determined recently is consistent with the above properties.
