Lifetime and Diffusion Coefficient of Free and Momentarily Localized Excitons in Red-FgI_2

Time response of free and momentarily localized exciton (FE and MLE)luminescences in red-Hgl. has been measured at different temperatures. The behaviorof the response is well explained by taking the exciton lifetime, the one-dimensionalexciton diffusion and the luminescence re-absorption into account. It has been foundthat the lifetime is constant within each of FE and MLE energy regions but the valuesof them are different from each other. These results lead to the conclusion that FE orMLE is in thermal equilibrium within each system but a barrier exists between them.It has been also found that the diffusion coefficient of MLE is smaller than that of FEand that the relaxation of MLE is dominated by the deformation interaction withacoustical phonons.
