Collisional Relaxation of Backward Photon Echo in Molecular Sodium

Backward photon echo and its decay were observed in the XI-AX transitionof Na. undergoing collisions with Ar buffer gas. By using the quantum mechanicaltransport equation, expressions of the various colJisionaI cross sections arepresented. The results are applied to the experimtent, and several kinds of crosssections are obtained for the Naz-Ar s>zstem. Furthermccre bv assuminx theGaussian collision kernel, two parameters of the population kernel arc derivedfor the Nx.(XI) -Ar collisions.
