Crossover from First-Order Valence Transition to Kondo Behavior in C15b-Type YbCu_<5-x>In_x System

YbCtts and YbCtn.tIn forrns a solid-solution (YbCus .In.) with cubic AuBes-type (C15b)structtrre in the In-couacentration range 0,1 :: .r fi 1; and below x -: 0.1, it coexists with ahexagonal Cactus-type YbCus phase under autabient presstrre. The rnagnet.ic stmsceptibility andhigh-field maguaetization measturernents reveal tlaat the first-order valence transition in YbCu,jlnshifts to higher tenuperature and becornes broadened significantly with decreasing In-content,and sirnultaneovxsly the delocalized mixed-valent state of Yb ion (r :::- l) shows a continuotrschange toward the localized trivalent state (r : O). The electrical resistivities of YbCu5 .In.display variotrs tenuperatture-dependencies: ranging fronu a pronounced drop at .r :: l, via atminirnuuaa behavior for 0.4< x< 0.7, to a negative logarithmic increasing bel'xavior ( - lnT)for x< 0.3. Above restrlts sttggest that YbCtns .rIn.r goes through a crossover from a valencefluctuation system to a dence Kondo one with decreasitag x. At x :: 0, the fortaaation of Kondolattice is predicted.
