Mossbauer Study on Fe-Rich Amorphous Fe-La Alloys

M6ssbauer spectra have been measured for two Fe-rich amorphous alloys, a-Fe,..,La.., with spin glass behavior and a-Fe...,La.,., with reentrant spin glassbehavior, in the temperature range between 4.2 K and room ternperature. These spec-tra are analyzed using the Hesse and Rubertsch method to obtain the distribution ofhyperfine fields. The distribution of hyperfine fields at 4.2 K coxasists of a main compo-nent ranging from 200 k0e to 400 k0e and a sub??componen[ around 150 k0e. Theaverage Fe-moment is estimated to be 1.96p. for a-Fc,..,Lx.., and 2.00jt. for a-Fe...,La...,. Hyperfine fields in a-Fe,..,La.., appear progressively below 150 K, whichis apparently higher than the spin glass temperature of 124 K determined by the acsusceptibility measurement. On the other hand, hyperfine fields in a-Feg..,La..., ap-pear just below the ferromagnetic ordering temperature of 267.5 K, but increaseanomalously below 70 K. This anomaly can be explained in terms of the freezing oftransverse components of spins.amorphous magnetism, M6ssbauer effect, amorphous Fe-I,a alloy
