High-Field Magnetization Processes of Double Spin Chain Systems KCuCl_3 and TlCuCl_3

High-field magnetization processes of Sol/2 double spin chain systems KCtuCl3 and TlCuCl3have been tneasured Lip to 39T at 4.2 and l.7K for both systems and at 1.0 and O.5K forTlCuCl3 using single crystals. A transition fro?n a singlet grotund state with an excitation gapto a gapless rauagnetic state with finite strsceptibility occurs at H. '? 20T and 6T for KCuCl3and TlCuCl3, respectively. The critical field H. depends on the external field direction due tothe anisotropy of the y-factor. The excitation gap A is evaltrated as 4/AB : 3l.1K for KCuC13and 7.5K for TlCL1Cl3, Although the antiferromagnetic interactions in TlCuCl3 are strongerthan those in KCuCl3, which can be seen frona the slope of' the tnagnetization curves above H.,the excitation gap in TlCuCl3 is about a qtuarter of' that of KCuCl3. It is observed that thetransition field H. increases with increasing temperattrre.
