The magnetic properties of l<bVBr. with a deformed CsNiC?l. structure were investigated by means of the sttsceptibility and torque measurements. RbVBr,undergoes the successive transitions, 7'.,=28.0K and 7'..=21.3K and 19.0K onheating and cooling, respectively. A large hysteresis was observecl for the transition atT... Metastable states appear between the intermediate phase and low-temperaturephase. Tlte intermediate phase has the weak ferromagnetic nvoment of the orderof 10 ' 7t. perpendicular to the c-axis, while the low-temperalure phase does not.It is compatible with the crystal structure that the weak rnoment due to theDzyaloshinsky-Moriya interactiorx appears in linear chains. It is concluded that in theintermediate phase the spins form a collinear structure, probably ferrimagnetic one inthe c-plane and a triangular one ir? the low-temperature phase.[RbVBr, susceptibility, torque, triangular lattice, antiferrorttagnet, successive l] phase transitionsl
