Measurements of optical birefringence have bcen made on single crystals ofthe a-type KCUF3 between 6 and 600 K. The obse?"ved temrerature der>endence ofbirefringence was found to be in good agreement over a widccr temperature rangeabove Ts with Bonner-Fisher's theoretical results for the magnetic energy ofS=1/2 Heisenberg linear chain systems.
