The effect of polarization electric field on homogeneous-twist transitions in surfacestabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal sample is studied on the basis of the continuumtheory. From numerically calculated phase diagrams for an applied DC electric fieldand the anchoring strength at the boundaries, one may find that twist structurebecomes unstable by the polarization electric field due to the spatially distributingpolarization charge accompanied with that structure. Consequently, a homogeneousuniform state is found to be more stable rather than a twist state. Some experimentsare suggested to clarify the effect of polarization electric field, and the present resultsare compared with those previously obtained by Pavel.
