Analysis of the Soft Mode Behavion in Li_2Ge_7O_<15> in Terms of a Coupled-Mode Model

On the basis of a coupled-mode model, the coupling between a soft modeand another optical mode (called a partner mode) in Li.Ge.0 .5 observed bymeans of the Raman scattering is analyzed. The observed Raman profiles aresatisfactorily fitted to the adopted model. From the results of the fitting it hasturned out that both real and imaginary parts of the coupling constant are almostconstant over the examined temperature range and the coupling between twomodes is mainly tln"ough the nondissipative mechanism.High pressure Raman scattering measurements were performed. It was foundthat there is some difference between the temperature and pressure dependencesof the behaviors of the coupled system.
