Time-of-Flight Study of Low Energy Charge Transfer Reactions of Ar Ions and Metastable Ar Ions with H_2 Molecules

Translational energies of secondary neutral atoms produced by the chargetransfer reactions in collisions of argon ions Ar" and metastable argon ions Aa""with H. molecules have been measured by a time-of-flight technique at ten eVregion. Two kinds of charge transfer processes were examined; reaction betweenground state reactants At" -4-H.->Ar-f-H.f, and formation of metastable atomsAr" from metastable io'ns Ar"-f-H.->Ar"-4-Hf. The ground state Ar atomswere predominantly scattered with little or no angular deflection and with littleenergy exchange, resulting the Hf in vibrational state v'=1 for Ar"("P.7.) andv'=2 for Ar"("P.,.). On the other hand, the Ar" atoms were yielded with beingdeflected in relatively wide angle and releasing considerable amount of internalenergy (>1 eV).
