Vibrational Excitation of NO by Li^+ Impact from 100eV to 1200eV

Cross sections for the 0-l and 0 -2 vibrational cxcitations of the NO moleculeby Li" impact are measured with an ion energy-loss spectrometer. The crosssection reaches a maximum value 6.7 X 10 " cm' at 310 eV for the O-1 transition,and 6.8 x 10 " cm" at 210 eV for the 0-2 transition. The irnfrared intensity forthe 0 -I transition is deduced to be 7.2 x 10 "<:su'cm' by comparison of themeasured cross section with the result of the first Born approximation.
