Ion Energy-Loss Spectroscopy of Kr^<2+>-He and -Ne Collisions.I.Transitions among ^3P_2,^3P_1,^3P_0,^1D_2 and ^1S_0 of Kr^<2+>

• Excitation and de-excitation among low-lying states of Kr", 'P., 'P., 'Pg,'D, and "S... in the collisions with He and Ne are studied in the energy rangefrom 0.5 to 2.7 keV using a high resolution ion energy-loss spectrometer. Theprimary Kr" beam is extracted from an electron-impact ton source and thefractional populations of these states are determined as a function of the impactenergy for electrons from 80 to 400 eV. The measured fractions are different fromthose expected from the statistical model. The fractional populations of themetastable states, 'D. and 'S., increase monotonously with the increase of theelectron energy up to the highest energy studied. The cross sections for the 'P.e'P., 'P.e'P., 'P.,.e"D. and 'D.<+'S. transitions are evaluated from theintensities of the inelastic and primary peaks observed at angle O'.
