Distribution of Spin Polarization in Ferrimagnetic DyFe_2 by a Novel Analysis of Magnetic EXAFS

IVIagnetic EXAFS (IVIEXAFS) at the Fe K-edge in DyFez powder and an Fe thin filun werenaeasured. In order to derive a f'errinaagnetic cotrpling of spin moments between Dy and Fefrom IMEXAFS spectra, novel analysis for IVIEXAFS has been tried. The oar) profiles, whichare defined as the difference between the absolute va[tres of Fotrrier transf'ormed A"y(; (A) andA'X (A), were calctrlated for the taaeasured spectra, X+ (A) and X (A) are EXAFS ftrnctions whenthe correlation between a X-ray beam and a taaagnetic field applied to a sanaple is parallel andanti-parallel, respectively. The oar) has well described the distribution of spin polarization withits sign for f'errinaagnetic Dyeed. A sirtatrlated distribution profile, in xvhich only spin naotaaentswere considered, has been cornpared with the<v(r) in DyFe3 and a good councudence betweenthem has been obtained. The cr(r) profile for an Fe thin filtn cornpletely reflects the f'erromagneticcharacter and this restnlt supports the validity of the present analysis.
