In review of the non-vanishing core potential, a correction is made on cross-sections by using a simple set of OCE MO's of water molecule along the Glaubertheory. It has been assumed that only one pair of charges can cast a dominantdistortion on the incident electron in the frozen core model. The effective corepotential is approximated by two terms : one a neutral Hartree potential of closedshell, and the other that of one hole in the orbital to be excited. A relatively smalleffect is found on the excitation cross-section from the core potential in particularin the high and medium energy regions of incident electron. Favourable improve-ments are obtained for the excitation function of the Lyman-a emission inducedby electron impact.
