Study of Low Energy Charge Transfer Reactions of Metastable Argon Ions with Argon Atoms by Time-of-Flight Technique

A new technique for kinentatical study of Low Energy Charge stransfer reactions isdenaonstrated with the reaction Ar"-1-Ar=Ar'-F-Ar'-1-J7", where the suffix Mdenotes metastable states of each species. The product metastable argon atomsAr' can be detected with a secondary electron naujtiplier even at very low energy,and the e?aergy distribution of Ar" is measured by timne-of-flight technique witha high resolution. The energy defect dE of the above reaction was detertnjned tospread through 2 to 5 eV (exothernaic). A discussion about the results obtained isgiven.
