• Excitation cross-sections are obtained for each term of the Arll zzZ-states(nl=4p, 4p' and 4d) at 4 and 8 key. The relative population distribution amongthe terms of a given n/-state can be interpreted in terms of statistics based on thebuilding-up principle of molecule under radial coupling scheme. The relativepopulation distribution among the multiplets in a given term is proportional totheir statistical weight; spin-orbit recouplizvg at large internuclear separations isresponsible for the populatiomx mechanism. The energy dependence of excitationcross-sections is discussed in connection with the Laxcdau-Zener theory.
