Observation of Selective Electron Capture by Fully Stripped C,N and O Ions from H Atoms

Energy gain spectra of charge-changing projectile ions arc measured for electroncapture by fully stripped carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen ions from atomic hydrogen atthe collision energy of 1 .5 X q keV. The electron is confirmed to be selectively cap-tured into a particular single level of the hydrogen-like product ion; n=4 of C" andn = 5 of N" and 0", respectively, which are in agreement with the theoretical predic-lions.
