XX7e propose the application of ptrlsed evapor'ative cooling, w'laich has been trsed strccess['trlly forBose-Einstein condensation of' neutral artottas, to highly char'ged ions. Pr?tctically, tlais coolingtechniqtte can be highly efficient atnd ['avorable f'or ions in an electron bearn ion trap (EBIT).By cotaaptrter sinatrlation, we have ntrtaaerically estintaated the perf'orrnance of this cooling scherneon the lcasis of tlae standard evaporation theory. The restrlt is very pronaising; f'rorn the iuaitialteuaaperattrre of 500 eV, Kr"' can be cooled to rooraa tetnperatture within a f'ew seconds.KEYWORDS: highly charged ion, evaporative cooling, electron beam ion trap
