Physical Properties of a Quasi One-Dimensional Conductor Pt_6(NH_3)_<10>Cl_<10>(HSO_4)_4:Partially Oxidized Salt of the Magnus Green Salt

The salt Pt.(NF[.)..Cl..(I-150.). with the average valence of Pt2.33 wasprepared by means of partial oxidation of [Pt(NFI.).1-[PtCI.]. The electricalconductivity o has a m'aximt m at about 230 K and a minimum at about 280 Kwhich indicate two M-I transitions. The thermal analyses by a DSC show threeancm'alies only on heating, G at - 150 K, A at - 200 K and B at - 250 K. Theexothermic ancm'tly A sttcceeding to the weak anomaly G indicates that a glasstransition takes place, which is supported by a.c. calorimetry. The endothermicanomaly B corresponds to a structural transition. The result by adiabatic calori-metry at low temperatture is expressed as C(T)=JT-4.fiT'. Tlnc p value leads tothe Debye tem3verature of 188 K and the presence of the 7'-linear term also sup-ports the glassy state. The results of X-ray powder patterns at low temperaturesare given. The M-I transitions are discussed.
