• The crystal field absorption spectra in the near infrared to visible regions ofCsCoCl,'2H.0 were investigated. All of the absorption bands were well assiged bytaking the crystal field and Racah parameters as Dq = 720 cm ', B = 920 cm ' andC=4320 cm ', respectively. In the spin forbidden transition 'T.('F)='T.('P) the ex-citon line and its magnon sideband were observed. The one-dimensionality ofmagnetic properties is reflected in the temperature dependence of the peak energy andthe integrated intensity of the magnon sideband.
