Self-Trapped Exciton Luminescence in Mixed K_<1-x>Rb_xI Crystals

The self-trapped exciton (STE) luminescence of mixed K. . Rb...l crystals has beeninvestigated by using D. lamp and synchrotron radiation as light sources at l 1 K. Theresults show that the o emission band is kept well over the whole composition rarage,and its decay fume changes continuously from 2.0 ns in Kl to 4. ] ns in Rbl, It is foundthat the virtual-crystal model is quite valid for the singlet STE state which is responsible for the o luminescence. The n emission band of Kl is closely connected to the E,band, not the n band, of Rbl with increasing x. The n band of Rbl disappears in theregion x<0.4. These facts are compatible with a recent theoretical model indicatingthat at equilibrium the lowest triplet STE is situated off-center.
