Auger-decay-free core ltrrninescence in RbF, CsF, CsCl, CsBr and BaF3 has been studied undermonochromatic vacuum ultraviolet Tight excitation trsing a time-resolved technique. Ltrmines-cence spectra associated with core holes are c?treftrlly separated from those originating in thevalence-band excitation. Based on the spectral shape and energy range of the luminescencebands, a lattice relaxation effect following the core lnole creation is disctrssed.
