Energy Transfer Due to Excitons and Holes under Host-Sensitization in NaCl: Br

Energy transfer mechanisms from the host lattice to bromine ions in Nail : Brcrystals have been investigated by observing host-sensitized luminescence. Themigration of excitons and that of holes are both found to be responsible for theenergy transfer mechanisms. Separation of the two migration processes is shownto be possible by investigating the temperature dependence of the emissionintensity. The results obtained reveal that, when the exciting photon energy isincreased beyond the f-band edges of Nail, probability of the energy transferdue to exciton diffusion decreases rapidly with the complementary enhancementof that due to hole migration. This situation is consistent with the results obtainedrecently in KBr : I crystals.
