Temperature Dependence of Auger-Free Luminescence in Alkali and Alkaline-Earth Halides

Atrger-free luuninescence (AFL) restrlting frotn a radiative transition between the otttermost-core band,'; and the valeuuce bands in BaF3, RbF, CsF, CsCl and CsBr has been sttrdied in a xviderange of tenaaperattrres froraa 10 to 300 K. The AFL spectra ?rre separated frorn those origiuaatiuagfrom the vsalence-band excitatioza with ttse of tittae-resolved luuninescence spectroscopy. It is foundthat tlae decay profile of AFL in each crystal is essentially the saraue throughotrt tlae spectrtrna.Tlae rernarkable thernual broadening of' the [inewidth is verified for all systetns. T1?is stronglysuggests that the core hole generated on a positive iort indtrces considerable displacetnent of' thesttrrotrnding ions within its lifetirne. Based on the present resttlts, the spectral shape of AFL isdisctussed in ternas of a cltrster model and a txvo-bar?d rnodel, reqvriring ftrrther developtnent ofthe investigations in theory arnd experitnent.
