Possible Structures of Pion Condensate in Symmetric Nuclear Matter

We investigate what kind of special and isotopic structure of pion condensate is most in favour of p-wave π-N interaction under the mean field approximation in symmetric nuclear matter. Near the critical point we examine the structure of effective π-π interaction by the perturbation method taking the short wavelength nature of pion condensate into account. It is shown that the three-dimensional standing wave condensate with mixed isospin configuration is most likely to occur in this region in opposition to the results obtained by Thomas-Fermi approximation. Strongly condensed phase is also examined by the model descriptions of nuclear system in solid-like phase. Numerical results indicate two-dimensional and three-dimensional crystalline structures accompanying standing wave pion condensates with mixed isospin configuration are most probable in such extreme cases. It is clarified that the distortion of Fermi surface plays an important role in addition to the spin-isospin nature of p-wave π-N interaction throughout all the stages of the condensation.
