A Microscopic Study of Elastic Scattering of α Particles on ^7Li Nuclei : The Roles of the Triton Exchange and of the Pauli Principle

The orthogonality condition model (OCM) is applied to the analysis of elastic scattering of α particles on ^7Li nuclei in which the triton (t) exchange is taken into accouont explicitly. Angular distributions are calculated at several incident energies E_α from 2.0 MeV (lab. system) to 18.0 MeV. A phenomenological imaginary potential is introduced at higher energies (E_α≥12.0 MeV). Satisfactory results are obtained for the characteristic features of angular distributions in the overall region of energies considered. It is clarified that, at energies near the Coulomb barrier (E_α≲6.0 MeV), the t exchange gives rise to a strong effect with a tensor type of interaction at the surface region which results in suppressing the backward rise of the cross section. It is shown that the effect of the Pauli principle plays an indispensable role for this characteristic feature of the effect due to the t exchange. At energies well above the Coulomb barrier (12.0≤E_α≤18.0 MeV), the strong backward rise of the cross section is explained by the t exchange as expected normally, the forward angular distribution being determined by direct scattering.
