We calculate the unpolarized and polarized nucleon structure functions F_1(X) and g_1(x), respectively, in the SU(2) chiral quark soliton model at the leading order in the angularvelocity expansion. We take into account the vacuum polarization as well as the valence quark contributions. With a realistic value of the constituent quark mass of M = 400 MeV, the x-dependence of F_1(x) is shown to be in agreement with that of the quark parton model. We observe that the vacuum polarization contribution represents essentially a behavior similar to that of the valence quarks, when the valence quarks dive into the negative-energy states at large M.
