In this study, we examined the effect of some of the processing procedures such as freeze-drying, sun-drying and steam-drying on the ratio of the corydaline content to the dehydrocorydaline (DHC) content in the tubers of Corydalis ambigua CHAM, et SCHLECHT. As a result of the present experiment, it was found that an extremely small quantity of the quaternary alkaloid, DHC, existed in fresh Corydalis ambigua tuber. Therefore, it can be assumed that DHC is secondarily produced from the tertiary alkaloid, corydaline, during the processing of tubers.
