A method was established for the quantitative determination of major tertiary alkaloids (corybulbine, coryaline and cavidine) in fresh tuber of Corydalis ambigua CHAM. et SCHLECHT. by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). HPLC was carried out using a LiChrosorb RP-18 column with a mobile phase (CH_3CN-H_2O-10% CH_3COOH=50:50:2, pH adjusted to 5.3 with 10% NH_4OH) at ambient. Retention times of the three compounds were within 18 min, and the reliability of this determination was about 97±1%. This method was considered to be useful for the evaluation of cultivated species of C. ambigua.
