Saccharomycopsis fibuligera glucoamylase (GLU1) and Escherichia coli β-lactamase (bla) fusion gene was constructed and expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. S. cerevisiae transformants with the plasmid harboring the GLU1-bla fusion gene produced in the culture medium a 90 Kd protein with both glucoamylase and β-lactamase activities, in agreement with the size of the chimera protein expected from the gene construct.
