A New Bile Acid Glycoside Produced by Cunninghamella blakesleeana ST-22 form Lithocholic Acid

Mcrobial transformation of lithocholic acid (3α-hydroxy-5β-cholanic acid)(1__-) by a fungus Cunninghamella blakesleeana ST-22 was studied. An unknown metabolite was ditected by using [carboxy- ^<14>C] lithocholic acid as substrate. The structure of the new metabolite was determined to be lithocholic acid 3α- O-β-D-glucopyranoside on the basis of mass, infrared, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies.
