Glancing Angle Scattering of MeV H^+_2 Ions at a Clean(001)Surface of SnTe

Angular and energy distributions of dissociated fragments resulting from glancingangle incidence of MeV II.' iouts on clean (001) surfaces of SnTe single crystals inUHV are studied. The distributions are compared with those obtained for H" projectiles of the same velocity. It is shown that the molecttlar axis of H; or vector connec-ting its fragments tends to align to the surface durirxg reflectiorr at the surface. Thisalignment is qualitatively explained in terms of surface planar potential.[molecular ion, glancing angle scattering, dissociation, Coulomb explosion, ll single crystal, surface, specular reflectionl
