The Relationship between Corotating Energetic Ion Enhancement and Solar Wind Speed at 1AU

A series of corotating energetic heliuraa events with 3-5 1VIeV / n has lceen observed by tire HEPtelescopes onboard the GFIIOTAIL satellite at 1 AU f'rorn October 1993 to Atrgust 1994. We haveexatnined the relationship betw'een solatr wind (SNV) speeds oTcserved at l AU and the intensityof He in the series of the corotating interaction region (CIR) events. The speed difl'erence of'the high-speed SW f'rotn slow-speed SW, which ['orrzas a CIR in the outer heliosphere, shows areasonable correlation with the peak intensity of He at 3 -5 ]VIeV/n. The speed difference of thoseSWs is considered to be related to the shock strength which develops in a CIR at a distance fronuthe Sun. Strch a correlation between energetic Tons associated with CIRs and SW speed has notbeen shown so far for the events during the period of' 1978-1986. We have 2llS0 investigated thedependence of the relation between the Clll. ton events and the SW speeds dttring the periodbetween 1978 and 1995 which corresponds to the high solar arctive phase of Solar Cycle 22. Thereis a good correlation between the SW speed and the peak intensity of' CUR energetic ions in theqtriet phase of solar activity, btrt not in the ?tctive phase.
