Excitable membranes resr>ond irrenularlv to a r>eriodic stimulation with properstimulus r>arameters. Because irresular firins is macroscoric, it seems that it-resularit>r is caused bv other factors besides microscoric membrane nonse. Therest>onses of the reretitivelv firins Onchidium t:>acemaker neuron to a sinusoidaucurrent stimulation were investisated. The irresular resr>onses are classified intothree kinds of chaotic oscillation: chaos, intermittencv and random alternation.1/2- and 1/1-harmonic resr>onses bifurcate to chaos via intermittency and randomalternation respectively. Harmonic and chaotic responses alternate with eachother with increasins fre<auenc>' of stimulation and with smaller amplitude.'Nonlinear factors, threshold and refractor>' r>eriod, are concerned with hyper..bolicity of chaotic responses.
