Fluctuation near the hard mode and the soft mode instability points in thelinear feedback oscillator are studied experimentally and theoretically in detail.The current i and the charge q are measured and analyzed by using a spectrum-correlation analyzer. A critical slowing-down pFtenomenon and an anomalousincrease of the variance<4'>are demonstrated both in the hard mode and thesoft mode instabilities, but the variance (Z") incre;tses only in the hard mode case.The irreversible circulation of the fluctuation in ,f-q space, ctz., is experimentallyobtained. The equality aj.=(f") obtained in the present work demonstrates theconsiderable increase of tx,. only in the hard modac instability. A good agreementbetween experimental and theoretical results is obtained.
