Motion of a Defect in EHD Cell of Liquid Crystal with Two Free Lateral Side-Walls

C reation-annihilation process of defects in WD rolls of a nematic liquid crystal wasstudied experimentally as an electrohydrodynanaic instability of a layer within twofree lateral side-walls of relatively large aspect ratio. A regular pattern was seen to beformed through creation and annihilation of defects. The defects began to move fastas they approach to the side-walls. Their motion changed I'rom gliding (across roll-axis) one to climbing (along roll-axis) one with time. Finally the defects disappearedthrough climbing motion.
