Electron-Hole Exchange Interaction of the Γ-Exciton in NaCl Studied by Piezoreflectivity

Piezoreflectivities ofΓ-excitons in NaCl have been measured at about 80 K. Cubic deformation potentials of excitons and interband transition edge were determined, and it is shown that under the cubic expansion the exciton doublet shift to the same value, -2.5eV. A large transfer of intensity between exciton doublet is observed under the trigonal strain. The experimental line shape of Δε_2 under the trigonal strain is in good agreement with the calculated line shape, taking into account the exchange interaction as well as the spin-orbit splitting of the Γ-excitons.
