Magnetic Circular Dichroism at E_1 Edges in Semiconductors

Magnetic circular dichroism in the E. region is measured for InSb, Ge, GaAs,and Si to investigate Zeeman splittings of energy bands at A critical points involvedin the E. transitions. The results are well explained within the band theory incontrast to the previous experiments on Landau levels, and it is found that a"linear k. term" plays an important role in determining the Zeeman splittings.
