Temperature-Dependent Change of Correlated Electronic States in Yb_4As_3 and Yb_4(As_<1-x>Sb_x)_3 Probed by High Resolution Photoemission Spectroscopy

Clear changes of the Yb 4f photoernission spectra with tetnperattrre are observed in Yb.jAs3by high resoltrtion photoetaaission spectroscopy. The photoeuaaission intensity is very low at theFernai level and decreases as the teraaperature is lowered in accord with the narrowing of the41 spectra. Btrlk and surface contribtrtions are deconvoltrted in the 4f" final state spectra. Incomparison with the corresponding restrlts in Ybj(Asj .Sb.)3, the spectral changes of Yb,jAs3with teznperattrre are confirtned to be beyond sinaple theruaaal broadening efl'ects and related tothe charge ordering effects. Althotugh the change from the charge ordering ternperature ('Z'j ) downto about T./2 is consistent with a theoretical prediction, the change below it is rather tunusualand may be ascribed to the incoznpleteness of the charge ordering effect. Spectral changes withYbjSb3-substittrtion are qtralitatively disctrssed.
