Phase Transitions in Fe^<4+> (3d^4)-Perovskite Oxides Dominated by Oxygen-Hole Character

The electronic properties of CaFe? ..Co.r0a, a perovskite systeun dominated by oxygen-holecharacter, were studied experitaaentally. A partial Co-substittrtion has been found to indtzce aserial transformation from a charge-disproportionated, antiferromagnetic (AF), instrlating phase(Phase I, x< 0.1) to a charge-rnelted, AF, znetallic phase (Phase II, 0.1< x< 0.2) and then to aferrotaaagnetic and utuetallic phase (Phase III, 0.2< x< 0.5). Both the AF phases I and II have ascrew spin structure with a propagation vector k 7 (111 >, while the length of wave vector changesfronn k : 0.16lo' at x : 0 to k : 0.l3a' at I :: 0.1. We ascribe the serial transfortnation tobroadening of the oxygen-hole band with increasing Co content.
