Exciton Selt-Trapping in Tetracene Crystals:A Case of Shallow Self-Trap Depth

Spectra, polarizations and decay times of luminescence in well refined tetracenecrystals with monomeric structure have been measured over a wide temperaturerange. These data have led to the following conclusions: (1) the luminescenceconsists of free exciton luminescence and self-trapped exciton luminescence,(2) free excitons and self-trapped excitons are in thermal equilibrium, (3) theself-trapped exciton state is of one-center type and (4) the self-trap depth for theexcitons is about 60 cm-'
