Second-order Raman scattering in alkali iodides has been studied at 5 K byusing a usual deuterium discharge lamp and a single prism monochromator. Theremarkable resonance enhancement of the scattering efficiency for 2-LO phononshas been observed in the edue resion of the Is exciton absorrtion band. Fromthe comparison of the results with existing theory the dominant scattering processin this region is concluded to be successive scattering of the virtually created Isexciton by two LO phonons.
